Sveta, I hope you are well and feeling better. I learned something interesting today. This weekend is the anniversary of the music festival Woodstock so I wrote a (poorly researched, very quiick write) article about it. Someone mentioned some lines from the Mary Hopkin song Those Were The Days (August 30 1968). It turns out it is a translation of "Дорогой длинною" ("Dorogoi dlinnoyu"), written by Boris Fomin (1900-1948) with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii. Do you know this song? Chana
Sveta, It comes from a Star Trek episode City On The Edge Of Forever. One of my favorite episodes. Plus I just like the name. I think it is rather hopeful, though City on the edge of tomorrow might be a little better. Someone once asked me on another web site what it was like there. I told them it was ideal. There is no crime, poverty, war, racist, sexism etc. My dream place. Kind of like John Lennon's Imagine. Good day to you Sveta! Chana
Sveta, I was talking to a friend today and we got on the topic of the war over in Georgia. She said she was very confused why Russia was upset with the USA state of Georgia. I did explain to her it was not our state, but a country in the area of what used to be the USSR. She asked me why they called it Georgia and how long it has been called that. I told her I was not sure, but I thought since before the revolution. I am going to look it up (I use goodsearch.com which gives part of its profits to the charity of your choice, not google), but thought I would ask you also. Do you know? If so please enlighten me. I was honestly a little shocked that she thought it was the USA state they were talking about and at first thought she was putting me on. Chana
